Peter Hook cancels Joy Division

Peter Hook, one of the original Joy Division dudes, was scheduled to come out and cover one of the band's albums next week. I was excited. I had a photo pass for it!

And then it was cancelled. Why?
...due to production circumstances which were beyond their control.
.... right. In the press release they mentioned they might try it again at the end of this year or the start of next. But this could be just the start of a huge legal to-and-fro between him and the other Joy Division guys, also known as New Order. There's been a lot of contention about who owns what rights to the music in either band between them all. A shame really, because they are two iconic bands, done by the same guys originally.

Cancelled: Murder by Death

When bands cancel tours, I get sad. Especially bands I really want to see. But everything about the Murder by Death cancellation actually makes me happy (except for having to wait longer to see them again).

Why?
  1. It's the night of Soundwave. I am photographing that festival and sideshows before/after. I'm going to be dead that night
  2. Carly's going to be in town and staying with me that night! Choosing between an overseas friend or a band? That's tough
  3. It was at Woodland. I don't like that venue. Now it is no longer at Woodland.
  4. I get to see them now!
It was originally February 25 at Woodland. Now it's May 26 at the Jubilee Hotel. A much better venue. And it only appears to be clashing with Florence + the Machine, a clash that's easy to choose. (Hint: not Florence).

Small news

This is a collection of music news that isn't large enough to warrant a whole dedicated post to itself.

Death Grips
The Death Grips show at the Zoo, one week from today, has been cancelled. Not sure why.

La Dispute
I'm not the only one in Brisbane that likes this band I guess, they've added a third Brisbane show to their tour, which is a second AA show. February 21 at Between the Walls.

Trapped Under Ice
I haven't listened to them much, hence no big blog post, but the 90's hardcore-sounding Americans, Trapped Under Ice, are coming to start mosh pits through out Australia. March 1, Snitch (X and Y) 18+, March 2, Between the Walls AA.

Good Australian folk music
I've talked about the Beards before, a folk comedy (I consider it more truth though) band that sings every song about facial hair. They are great fun and I suggest you get to the Zoo on March 30th to see them. It's only $15.

Good Brisbane punk music
One of my favourite local punk/ska/whatever they want band is the Black Market. They're playing a punk show at the Zoo this Saturday (the 21st) for $10. Can't think of any reason not to go to this.

Good Australian rock music
A few years ago, Children Collide were one of my favourite Australian bands. Although not hearing much from them lately, it turns out they are still going, recording a new album, releasing a new single and touring to support it.

March 16, Elsewhere Bar, Gold Coast
March 17, the Zoo.

Bah, copycats
Spin magazine, who've been music reviewing for a long time, have decided to do the same thing I do. Twitter reviews. If you want to read my reviews, nestled between whatever else I post, check out my Twitter.

Cancelled: Monster Magnet

I was really looking forward to this gig next week: Monster Magnet playing their great album Dopes to Inifinity in full! But nope, it's been canned. Here's the statement:
A number of circumstances have conspired to form the perfect storm and we are disappointed that this planned tour has been a casualty. The Monster Magnet “Dopes” tour will visit Australia at a more appropriate time. We appreciate
your continued support.
Considering they were out here in February, maybe ticket sales weren't as good as they had hoped? It's sad the amount of international tours getting cancelled in the last year or so. It breaks my heart.

Refunds available from the point of purchase.

Cancelled: The Casualties

I may be a bit slow on this, but one week out from their gig I was informed that the Casualties have cancelled their show at the HiFi. I wanted to see this, so you think I'd be sad. But, I'm not. You see, it's the same night as Touche Amore/Title Fight, which had precendence for me.

The HiFi says
ALL tickets remain valid from the 8th September postponed event for this show.  Refunds will not be accepted after Fri 16 September 5pm.
So if you want your money back, jump on it this week.

The Revolution is over

There's been a mighty lot of internet whining going around right now, purely because the music festival Soundwave Revolution has been cancelled.

This was the festival I was undecided about going to see. On one hand, fucking Van Halen. On the other hand, it was a lot of bands I had either seen before or had no desire to see. And it was too expensive. In the end I bought a ticket, purely for Van Halen and the promise of a new announcement this week with a bunch of other great bands (the rumours of which had me tempted).

Heck, last night I even put in my application for a photo pass. So maybe I jinxed it?

The 2nd announcement kept getting pushed back and back and back and now we know why. The second major headliner, who was supposed to be announced became a no show. And for some reason, this caused the entire festival to be disbanded.

Most of the bands are still coming out for an east coast only run of shows and little festivals. So sorry to Adelaide and Perth, you guys are getting the short end of the stick. I'll keep you all up to date as I find out more.

Here's the radio interview with festival promoter AJ Maddah earlier today.

EDIT: Brisbane related updates from AJ Maddah:

Update 2, thanks to my man Chris:
The Brisbane shows will be 24th to the 27th.

Update 1:

If you can't see the picture, there'll be a 2 stage mini-festival at Riverstage and Alter Bridge will be playing the Tivoli. More to come...

Redacted

I was about to blog about a new music festival feature Lil' Wayne and Kid Cudi, which included stops in Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane, but it got cancelled rather quickly. Within days of the first announcement actually.

Weird.

Kings of Leon postponed

It started as a stadium tour. A few weeks ago it was downsized to an entertainment centre tour. And now, it's not even happening.

Yes, Kings of Leon's show on March 6th has been canned. Apparently it's not for poor ticket sales though, but rather:
Doctors have advised that at least three months will be required for Nathan to recover post surgery to ensure the injury doesn't reoccur.

The injury has, at this stage, led to the postponement of Australian and South African tour dates for Kings Of Leon.

Nathan said of the postponement, "Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa. My bum wing needs more time to heal but we'll be back later this year. Sorry again".

A new itinerary is currently being secured for November in Australia and will be advised to fans this week. Ticket holders should hold on to their tickets until further notice.

Doves cancel tour

For reasons unkown, the dreamy British indie band has cancelled their upcoming Australian tour. It was supposed to be at the HiFi on February 15, but now it's not. So far, there's the stock standard "reasons beyond our control" quote being issued.

As always, you can get refunds from the point of purchase.

Rufio/Mest tour cancelled

Were you looking forward to getting your 90's pop punk groove on with Rufio and Mest? While unfortunately, you can't. Due to some visa issue (I think it's more the promoter messed up with applications) they can't get approval into our country in time for their tour! So it's been postponed.

So, here's a great cover Rufio do:
