Track and Field

While you read this story, you should play this song in the background.

Presenting: Track and Field.

The idea is the brainchild of a bunch of local band managers. The idea being that instead of having regular music club nights, or an annual festival, they create some sort of fun medium ground. And thus, Track and Field was born. Every few months now they'll put together bands and DJs in a warehouse like space for good party times.

The first installment of Track and Field will happen on June 4 at the Old Museum. The bands include Last Dinosaurs, Ball Park Music, The Belligerents and Mitzi. The DJs will be members of bands such as Hungry Kids of Hungary, the John Steel Singers and the Honey Month.

Tickets will be $17 on pre-sale and $22 later on. I'm pretty sure this is 18+ too, as I imagine this won't be a party without some sort of drinks flowing.

The Belligerents

So a while ago I ventured into a really awkward music venue with a small crowd of about 20 to watch a band from Sydney. I ended up having my face blown away by the awesome local band instead.
They are the Belligerents. With their awesome matching shirts and dancey-indie-synth-pop they had the whole crowd moving around. And given the reaction to the other bands of the night (dead still silence) that's not something to scoff at.

Well these guys have a new EP out, entitled Less Arty More Party, which I'm pretty sure is their life motto.

To celebrate their efforts, their going around for some EP launch shows to try and make a few more of you dance. Catch them:
March 26, Woodland. 18+
April 1, Lake Kawana Community Centre, Sunshine Coast
April 8, Elsewhere, Gold Coast

You can also get a free track from their EP here.

The Paper Scissors, Oct 21 2010, Tempo

I was going to write a review about this show, but I got lost on my way (due to their marketing guy telling me the wrong venue) and then this guy did a much better job of it then I ever would have. At least it appears that I wasn't the only person that went to the wrong place.

However, I'd like to use my blog to talk about one of the opening bands there, local boys The Belligerents.

And yeah, I took that picture. See more on my Flickr.

Anyway, the Belligerents play a synth led kind of dance punk. Think of the Rapture, if you want an idea. They had the whole crowd on Thursday night (albeit the 20 of them) up on their feet and dancing. That's a hard thing, especially with Brisbane's indie hipsters.

They've got some free music on Triple J unearthed, so give them a go if you like your dancier indie rock.
