Here's Johnny!

A line from a classic Simpson's episode and from a classic Stephen King-inspired movie.

And now it's being used as a pun-title for a new tour featuring two of Australia's indie darlings: The John Steel Singers and Jonathon Boulet (of the band Parades). The tour is shaping to be a bit of a collaborative effort, with them both promising surprises and a little magic in all of the shows.

Here's a video I took (and re-mastered using my audio ninja-ness) of the John Steel Singers (and others) covering the Saints:

Maybe they'll do something like that again? But without Robert Forster I imagine.

March 9, Great Northern, Byron
March 10, Spotted Cow, Toowoomba
March 11, Kings Beach Tavern, Caloundra
March 12, HiFi

No Years

It's not too early to start thinking about your New Years Eve plans. It's only a few months away now you know. If you come up with no ideas though, you should head to the Powerhouse for the No Years Festival.

The headliners are the Shout Out Louds. I've always said that Sweden makes some of the best music in the world, and the Shout Out Louds do not let that reputation down. Imagine as if Robert Smith (of the Cure) was Swedish. That's how I think the Shout Out Louds sound.

Also playing are the John Steel Singers, Parades and Little Scout. A great indie way to ring in the new year. And who knows, you may get to pash a hipster at midnight.

Valley Fiesta!

I've finally had a look over the lineup for the free music extravaganza that is the Valley Fiesta and I thought I'd share my picks with you. Running from the 9th to the 12th of September it is a celebration of all things in the Valley, at least the cultured part of the Valley, not the shitty night-club and strippers end that we all know and tend to avoid until one too many drinks have been embibed.

I personally recommend the Cairos (if you like poppy-indie), John Steel Singers (guitar indie) and Parades (harmonised indie). Yes, this year is mainly indie and mainly local bands, but it's free! And you may find a band you like! I've linked the band names to Triple J Unearthed where you can download free music of all of the bands.

I don't really know the Boat People or Ball Park Music, but people have talked about them a lot of late, so I may go see what they are like. Because it's free, it doesn't matter!

If you don't like free stuff, all of the music venues are also holding events in conjunction with the Fiesta. Check out the official website for the full lineup.
