Given ticket sales across this festival season, I'd say Soundwave is by far the most popular one, being the only festival so far to sell out in the Brisbane/South-East Queensland area.
Sideshow #1
Going hand in hand with this is more sideshows in our fine part of the country! Two more have been announced for Brisbane. The first one features a punk band that seems to be on our shores every year but always puts on a good show to a large crowd. It's Unwritten Law, supported by Zebrahead and Royal Republic at the HiFi, February 28.
Sideshow #2
The other one is for music fans about 20 years younger than the Unwritten Law crowd. I'm not a big fan of this show, but I'm sure some of my readers may be interested. It's A Day to Remember, The Used and You Me At Six. This show is All Ages at the Eatons Hill Hotel on February 27.
Cancellation/replacement
In actual Soundwave festival news, the crazy metal band Dragonforce has had to pull out due to recording rescheduling. They've been replaced with two bands I know very little about: Switchfoot and Paradise Lost.

Unwritten Law
So last night saw a bunch of drunken idiots gather in Rosies to sing along to covers of classic 90s punk songs. From my very patchy memory, they played Unwritten Law's Teenage Suicide as one of the last few songs (with the dude from Headaches singing... I think). Excellent timing, because there's talk of an Unwritten law tour!
These Californian punkers love Australia and we love them. They always get a big crowd with some excellent singalongs. And for us in the South East Queensland area, if it doesn't flood away, we'll get two days of Unwritten Law.

The Black Pacific
About a year ago, we were all shocked by the announcement that the lead singer of Pennywise was leaving after 20 odd years. It obviously wasn't to stay out of music, because he's already fronting a new band, the Black Pacific.

They've put out a new song that you can get for free, in anticipation of their new album out September 17th. The song's called When It's Over, and you can grab it for free here: http://www.bombshellzine.com/features/theblackpacific.htm
My thoughts? Unwritten Law. It sounds like Unwritten Law has gone a bit more heavy, and there's even a bit of screaming in it. I'm actually excited for this album now.
