Mixtape: Sick day

So there I was a few hours ago, unable to get out of bed. I finished my book and nothing else was within reaching distance but my phone. No music, no entertainment and it hurt too much to get out of bed. So I started trying to think what songs I could turn into a mixtape about being sick. I had about 3 ideas and then I hit a blank wall (I blame the painkillers). So I turned to Twitter. And now, I present to you, my crowd-sourced sick day mixtape!

Chuck's teen years: the tour

If you were ever a passenger in my car in my teenage years, especially in summer, you would've listened to one of three albums: Taking Back Sunday's Tell All Your Friends, New Found Glory's Sticks and Stones and Bouncing Souls How I Spent My Summer Vacation.

The other day a tour was announced featuring all but Bouncing Souls. The little 16 year old in front of me jumped for joy. In fact, as I type this, I'm wearing my Taking Back Sunday shirt I bought at a show in Chicago circa 2002.

(I came way too close to getting lyrics from that song tattooed on me when I was about 18)

Sure, their first albums hold a special place in my heart, but over the last decade both of the bands have put out such strong and quality albums. If you want to relive your teen years with me, come to the Tivoli on April 5, but only if you're over 18.

Taking Back Sunday

As a young, impressionable teenager, the band Taking Back Sunday meant a lot to me. Their emo-stylings and lyrics spoke to my constantly heart broken self. As such, their first album, Tell All Your Friends, was played pretty much every day. Heck, I still bust this song out on guitar every now and then:

Time went on, members came and went, albums were released and they just never seemed to recreate the brilliance of Tell All Your Friends at least as far as I was concerned. Maybe it was just the time and place and the memories linked to the album? Like when Joe and I drove to Colorado listening to this album over and over again, trying to convince his parents there were no swear words in it like modern music? Ahh, the memories.

Anyway, for the first time in years, the band is back together with the original lineup. Well not the original, original lineup with Jesse Lacey (of Brand New fame) in it, but the lineup that recorded Tell All Your Friends. And they've put out a new song!

After one listen I'm a bit undecided. They don't really do the dual vocals on it like on Tell All Your Friends, but hey, it's not finished yet. Fingers crossed.
